Overview

We are looking for a Senior SQL Server DBA to provide support and expertise for the management and administration of a family of Health IT databases in support of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at NIWC Atlantic.

The SQL Server DBA is needed to lead all activities related to database administration, operating in within a Scrum/agile environment. The candidate should have experience working within an Agile development framework, with specific knowledge of and experience with SQL technologies.

  • Provides and leads SQL DBA support to the project and stakeholders. This includes DB backups/restorations, DB tuning as needed, exporting/importing data as needed, SQL STIG review and configuration, troubleshooting DB issues and working with product support when needed, SQL/DB Package development, develop DB deployment scripts, setup of new SQL installations/upgrades, quarterly patching and maintain synchronization between various database environments.
  • Provide effective communication with application developers, analysts, program leadership and government stakeholders in order to effectively design and maintain database solutions.
  • Provides continuous monitoring of database performance and ensures that databases are tuned for optimally.
  • Ability to process data through the use of data base management systems (DBMS) technologies, including relational databases.
  • Ability to project, document and manage long-range requirements for database administration, development and design.
  • Perform database programming that supports overall system architecture and design.
  • Provides database documentation support to include current database configuration and dictionaries, update existing documents as system configurations change and update/maintain system STIG documentation as required.
  • Supports SharePoint administration functions as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years experience SQL Server database environments (SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, and 2016)
  • Experience working with other relational databases such as Oracle and Postgres
  • Experience implementing and managing SQL Server high-availability technologies (replication, mirroring, failover clusters, etc.)
  • Experience in supporting IaaS and PaaS on AWS and Azure Cloud environments
  • Experience with clustered SQL Server environments
  • Backup and disaster recovery experience required
  • Ability to thrive in an Agile framework
